Researchers from the Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia discovered that long-term consumption of carbonated drinks can cause hyperactivity and change of hundreds proteins in the brain.
Similar brain changes are noticed in various diseases, from cancer to Alzheimer’s.
“Experts have conducted many researches based on the influence food rich in sugar has on the overall health, but there is not much evidence on the consequences associated with mental health and brain cell functions. I think that we can freely say that excess consumption of carbonated drinks can change neurochemistry in the same way it can change waist size”, says Jane Franklyn, leader of the study.
She recommends drinking more water instead of carbonated soft drinks.
