Simple Fix for Vertigo (Video with Instructions)

Dr. Carol Foster from the University of Colorado School of Medicine has developed a simple home treatment for vertigo. Thanks to this, she has become a YouTube sensation. She explained this simple maneuver to the CBS4 Health Specialist Kathy Walsh in a 2012 story, and ever since then, its popularity is constantly increasing. So far it has 2.6 million views on cbsdenver.com.

Vertigo is not a condition, but rather a symptom. It’s a sensation or feeling as if everything around you is moving or spinning, when in reality it isn’t. It might not sound like a serious health problem, but still it will interfere with your everyday activities. An attack of vertigo can occur suddenly and last several seconds, or in some cases much longer – up to few days.

Some of the most common symptoms include: loss of balance, dizziness, feeling sick or being sick, and in some cases even hearing loss, ringing in the ears, and high temperature, depending on the condition that have caused your vertigo.

Although you can visually see all the instructions in the video below, we’ll explain the method briefly in a few sentences.

Tilt your head back so that you can look at the ceiling. Then, position your head like when preparing to do a somersault. While your head is in upside down position, turn to your left elbow. Once you feel no dizziness at all, lift your head to back level. Once again, wait to pass the dizziness and then sit back quickly.

This simple home treatment for vertigo is known as “the half somersault maneuver” and currently has around 2 million views on YouTube.

Although the inventor of this ingenious vertigo treatment doesn’t think she has gained much popularity, lots of vertigo sufferers are more than thankful for the learned ability to fix their vertigo in their own home.
