Suffering From Stress? These Foods Can Help

Everyone suffers from stress once in a while. While some of us handle stress pretty well, there are others who are overwhelmed by it. When stressed, people have a tendency to overeat on cake, ice cream and chips, these foods are known as comfort foods because people believe that they lessen the effects of stress. These foods might seem to work by lifting our spirits but this feeling only lasts for a few hours and stress kicks in once more. They are also bad for your health; think of the amounts of bad calories that one ingests by overeating unhealthy foods while stressed.

The good news is there are foods that you can eat to effectively fight stress and they are:

Avocados; these super fruits have high amounts of lutein, glutathione, Vitamin E and beta-carotene all of which protect your body against the adverse effects of stress. We recommend that you take avocados in small portions i.e. adding slices on salads as they have high fat content.

Sweet potatoes; these root vegetables have lots of nutrients such as carotenoids and fiber. The glycemic index of sweet potatoes is low so your blood sugar levels stay normal.

Kale Chips; this type of food is effective when you’re suffering from stress. Kale chips have high contents of the antioxidant carotenoid; research has shown that carotenoid raises a person’s mood. Kale chips are easy to make, you just need kale (obviously), olive oil and salt. Olive oil is also beneficial to your body when you are stressed as it has nutrients that give you high serotin levels.

Cashew nuts; these nuts have the right combination of fats and proteins making them ideal for your weight loss. They also have high zinc contents that protect you from anxiety and depression.

Chamomile tea; if you want a calm state of mind, then you should go for chamomile tea. Drinking this tea just before going to bed ensures a good soothing sleep, this is beneficial to your mind as sleeping is an effective way of combating stress.

Wine; we couldn't end this list without including wine. The alcohol content in wine acts as an antidepressant to give you a relaxed state of mind. Wine also has some antioxidants that promote a healthy heart. Don’t take more than a glass of wine every day.

Choosing the right foods when stressed is crucial to your health. Taking unhealthy foods to relieve stress adds sugars and fats to your body and this makes you fat. Stick to these foods to effectively fight stress while staying healthy.
